For a rectangular area, surface area is length multiplied by width. For a circular area, the calculator uses the standard circle formula based on the entered diameter. Volume is the surface area multiplied by compacted thickness. The final material weight is volume multiplied by density.
US formula: area in square feet × thickness in feet × density in pounds per cubic foot ÷ 2,000 = US tons.
Metric formula: area in square meters × thickness in meters × density in kilograms per cubic meter ÷ 1,000 = metric tonnes.
